WE ARE CELEBRATING 20 YEARS THIS YEAR!

What began as a pop-up in Visby in the summer of 2006 is now turning 20, something worth truly celebrating. To mark the occasion, we’re going big and welcoming one of our greatest sources of inspiration, author Fuchsia Dunlop, for a guest appearance on March 22–23.

For anyone engaged with Chinese food in the West, Fuchsia Dunlop has been a transformative figure, and for us her work has played a particularly important role. In the early years, when in-depth knowledge of Chinese cuisine was difficult to find in English or Swedish, her books became an obvious point of reference for us. We read from them, cooked from them, and returned to them time and again. Her writing transported us from Gotland and Visby to Sichuan and Chengdu, opening our eyes to the profound cultural significance of food in China. It is therefore with great joy and humility that we’re welcoming her, seeing this visit as a gift both to us and to our dear guests on the occasion of our 20th anniversary.

The guest dinners will be based on Fuchsia Dunlop’s latest book, Invitation to a Banquet, a book entirely without recipes, in which food instead becomes a key to understanding China’s history, philosophy, and society through her deeply personal and knowledgeable perspective.
Over the course of these two days, the shared ambition is to let what is served function in the same spirit: not merely as food, but as interpretive keys to aspects of Chinese food culture that too rarely reach the Western world.

Seats for the dinners can be booked starting January 30.
Address: Norrlandsgatan 24, Stockholm.
